Abstract Expressionism Art
Abstract expressionism art is paintings shaped by the inner turmoil of conceptual artists, but also due to the devastation wrought by World War II. They rejected naturalistic representation in favor of frenetic surfaces marked primarily by violent brushwork. The Abstract Expressionists first established themselves as an American art movement with international influence. They put New York at the center of the Western art world, a role Paris had previously had for over 200 years.
